Quick Answer

The 43rd Breeders Cup World Championships take place at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday 30 October and Saturday 31 October 2026. There are 14 Grade 1 championship races, with more than 34 million dollars in purses and awards. Friday is Future Stars Friday, five races for two year olds. Saturday is Championship Saturday, nine races for older horses, ending with the 7 million dollar Longines Breeders Cup Classic at 18:16 Eastern Time. That is 22:16 London time, 23:16 Berlin and Paris time, and 03:16 Sunday Pakistan Time. Keeneland hosts the Breeders Cup for the fourth time, after 2015, 2020 and 2022.

Why this weekend matters beyond the Classic

The Classic is the headline, but it is not the whole meeting. The Breeders Cup is also the race that decides Horse of the Year in the United States, and this year that argument runs through three races, not one. Forever Young, the defending Classic champion and the first Japanese winner of the race, tries to become only the second horse to win back to back Classics, after Tiznow in 2000 and 2001. Sovereignty, last year's Horse of the Year and winner of last year's Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, tries to beat the horse who beat him for the title conversation this year. Golden Tempo, winner of this year's Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, tries to complete a season that already includes two Classics of his own.

Then there is the Turf, the Distaff, and the Mile, each with its own international field. The Turf has 14 horses, including Diamond Necklace, Bay City Roller and Benvenuto Cellini. The Distaff has Nitrogen and Fully Subscribed at the head of the betting. The Mile has a European contingent that includes Qirat, Ask Ikigomi and Puerto Rico, after Gstaad and Constitution River were withdrawn. If you only watch the Classic, you will miss the races that shape the rest of the year end awards.

Friday matters too, because Future Stars Friday is where next year's Derby and Oaks contenders announce themselves. The Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies are the two most important two year old races in North America, and the Juvenile Turf races are where European juveniles test themselves against American speed on a different surface. Aidan O'Brien's pair, Sun Goddess in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Great Barrier Reef in the Juvenile Turf, are among the names UK viewers will follow on ITV4 on Friday night.

All 14 championship races: post times by country

Times below are from the official Breeders Cup race order published by Breeders Cup Limited on 21 October 2026, carried by BloodHorse. Post times can shift slightly on the day, so check again on race day. Conversions: London is four hours ahead of Eastern Time, Berlin and Paris are five hours ahead, Pakistan is nine hours ahead. That means Friday's first championship race, at 14:55 Eastern, is 23:55 Pakistan Time on Friday night, and Saturday's Classic, at 18:16 Eastern, is 03:16 Sunday Pakistan Time.

Saturday's full card begins at 11:15 Eastern, with three undercard races before the championship action starts. NBC coverage on Saturday runs from 13:00 to 15:30 Eastern on USA Network and Peacock, then moves to NBC and Peacock from 15:30 to 18:30 Eastern for the Classic window.

How to watch in the United States, UK and Ireland, and beyond

In the United States, NBC Sports and Peacock present 10 and a half hours of live coverage across NBC and USA Network over the two days, with every championship and undercard race also available on FanDuel TV through the Breeders Cup Players Show, which is also available on Peacock this year. In the UK and Ireland, ITV4 shows all five Friday races live, from 18:30 to 22:00 UK time, and four Saturday races live, from 20:00 to 22:45 UK time: the Mile, the Distaff, the Turf and the Classic. Sky Sports Racing also carries the meeting, and Racing TV offers digital streaming. The Saturday races that ITV4 does not show live, including the Dirt Mile, Turf Sprint, Sprint and Filly and Mare Turf, are available on Sky Sports Racing and Racing TV.

For viewers in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, the Breeders Cup is carried by local racing broadcasters and betting platforms, and FanDuel TV streams the Players Show internationally through BreedersCup.com, the official app, YouTube, Facebook and X. If you are watching from Pakistan, the practical option is the Breeders Cup YouTube and social streams for the Players Show, plus race replays, because the live window runs overnight Pakistan Time, from late Friday night through to early Sunday morning.

The Classic field: eight horses, no also eligibles

The Classic field is the smallest since 1984, with eight horses and no also eligibles, after Further Ado and Forged Steel moved to the Dirt Mile. That small field does not mean a weak race. It means every horse in the gate has a genuine case, and there is nowhere to hide on the track.

Forever Young is the 2-1 morning line favourite, with 16 starts, 12 wins, and earnings over 32 million dollars, and he has never finished worse than third. Sovereignty, at 5-2, has 12 starts, seven wins, three seconds and one third, with earnings of 6,876,550 dollars, including a Whitney Stakes win this year. Golden Tempo, at 5-1 in some listings and 5-2 in others depending on the source, has seven starts, four wins and three thirds, with earnings of 4,783,000 dollars, including this year's Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. The morning line odds in this article use the BloodHorse and Racing Dudes listings, with Forever Young 2-1, Sovereignty 5-2, Golden Tempo 5-1, Knightsbridge 9-2, Magnitude 6-1, The Puma 10-1, Napoleon Solo 15-1 and T O Password 30-1. Odds will move, and the live market on race day is the only market that matters.

Magnitude deserves a closer look than his 6-1 price suggests. He won the Dubai World Cup and beat Sovereignty in the Stephen Foster Stakes. Knightsbridge, trained by Mott like Sovereignty, is the other Mott runner, and Mott has two of the eight horses in the race. That is a strong hand for one trainer, and it means Mott's tactics, not just his horses, will shape the race.

Phileas Fogg remains out, after trainer Gustavo Rodriguez confirmed to Daily Racing Form on 22 October that the horse had a left front foot issue and would need two months off, pointed to 2027. That withdrawal, confirmed before the draw, is why the field is eight, not nine.

The other Saturday headliners

The Turf, at 17:36 Eastern on Saturday, has 14 horses and a 5 million dollar purse. Diamond Necklace is 3-1 from post 12, Bay City Roller is 5-1 from post 13, and Benvenuto Cellini is 6-1 from post 2. Also eligibles are Map of Stars and Telescopic. The Filly and Mare Turf, at 15:04 Eastern, has Blue Bolt confirmed at 5-2 from post 12, after weeks when her participation was conditional, and Precise at 7-2 from post 11. The Distaff, at 16:58 Eastern, has Nitrogen at 6-5 from post 2 and Fully Subscribed at 8-5 from post 4. The Mile, at 16:20 Eastern, is the race where European form meets American speed, and where the withdrawals of Gstaad and Constitution River opened the door for Ask Ikigomi, Puerto Rico and Qirat.

Friday's Juvenile, at 16:55 Eastern, is the race to watch for next year's Derby. The Juvenile Fillies, at 15:35 Eastern, is the equivalent for the Oaks. Neither race has a single dominant favourite in the way the Classic does, which is why Friday night, UK time, is often more open and more interesting for viewers who like a puzzle.

What to do if you can only watch one session?

If you are in the UK, watch Friday night on ITV4 from 18:30, then Saturday night from 20:00 for the Mile, Distaff, Turf and Classic in one sitting. If you are in the United States, watch Saturday afternoon on NBC from 15:30 Eastern for the last four races. If you are in Pakistan, set an alarm for 01:20 Sunday for the Mile, Distaff, Turf and Classic run, or watch the replays on Sunday morning. If you only have one hour, watch the Classic. If you have two hours, add the Turf. If you have the whole weekend, start on Friday with the Juvenile Turf Sprint and stay for the story of the two year olds, because next year's stars are usually there first.
